# Tasks

> User Tasks, Agent Tasks, and Task Health: the three task surfaces in a team.

A team's work is tracked on a shared board, split into three panels so you always know what needs you and what does not.

## User Tasks: decisions waiting on you

Everything waiting on **you**: questions, decisions, approvals, missing access or inputs. Each item shows what is needed, why it blocks work, a priority badge (**Blocking**, **High**, **Medium**, **Low**), and who asked.

</Frame>

Actions per item:

* **Reply**: opens "Reply to Atlas". Your answer is relayed to whichever agent needs it ("Atlas will follow up or relay your answer to the agent that needs it.").
* **Resolve**: dismiss an item you have already handled.

<Tip>
  If you only check one panel, check this one. Nothing in the other two panels requires your action.

## Agent Tasks: the work board

Every task Atlas has created or you have assigned, with title, assignee, and status: **Queued**, **In Progress**, **Done**, or **Blocked**. The default filter shows In Progress; toggle to see everything.

</Frame>

Actions:

* **Cancel** a single task (the agent stands down and will not recreate it unless asked).
* **Abort all (N)**: cancel every active task. Atlas is told to stand down the assigned agents and ask what to do next, after a confirmation prompt.

You can also create tasks yourself: open the slash menu in Atlas chat and choose **Assign task**, or use the Assign Task form. Pick the agent, describe the work, and choose the start mode:

* **Notify**: the agent receives the work without starting immediately.
* **Start**: the agent begins immediately.
* **Flag**: the task waits for your decision first.

## Task Health: board hygiene

Atlas's cleanup queue: stale blockers, tasks with no owner, unclear descriptions, or quiet tasks. These are Atlas's to fix; the panel exists so you can keep an eye on him.

* **Nudge Manager** on a specific item prompts Atlas to address it.
* **Sweep stale tasks** asks Atlas to review the whole board and cancel stale, duplicate, or superseded tasks.

When clean, it reads: "No stale, unassigned, unclear, or quiet tasks. Atlas is keeping the board clean."

## The kanban board

The full task board view shows four columns: **Todo**, **In Progress**, **Done**, and **Blocked**, each with a count. You can add tasks ("New task title...", pick an assignee, **Add**), change a task's status or assignee from dropdowns on the card, and delete tasks. A compact version of the board lives in the workspace side tray, with completed tasks collapsed under an "N completed" disclosure.

## Lifecycle notes

* Every dispatch automatically creates a task assigned to the running agent and fills in a completion summary when it finishes.
* Queued and flagged tasks survive app restarts. Hard-paused teams hold their queue until resumed.
* Canceled tasks record why they were canceled.

## A five-minute check-in routine

Once a team is running, your job is mostly triage:

1. **Clear User Tasks** top to bottom: **Reply** to questions, **Resolve** what is already handled. **Blocking** items first; everything downstream of them is stalled.
2. **Scan Agent Tasks**: cancel anything stale or off-goal. If the whole direction is wrong, **Abort all** and tell Atlas the new plan.
3. **Glance at Task Health**: if clutter piles up, **Sweep stale tasks**.
4. **Ask Atlas for a Quick Brief** (**Status brief**, **Blockers**, or **Needs from me**) instead of scrolling history.

Cancel ruthlessly: a short board Atlas can reason about beats a long aspirational one.
